Bodyweight Exercise - The Quickest Way to a Strong, Lean Body?
Bodyweight exercises may indeed be the quickest way to a strong, lean body. I’m not saying that I am totally against using machines or weights, however, I am absolutely averse to their use as the only or main way of building muscle. It’s too dangerous. Entirely too much repetitive motion as well as working only select muscles while secondary muscles simply become weaker with neglect. A recipe for injury. That being said, you do need a certain level of fitness to properly execute a lot of bodyweight exercises. I’ve met many people who could not initially do pushups, so if you can’t, don’t feel bad about that. You are in the majority, trust me. In this case, you are going to need to build up the arms, shoulders and chest muscles in smaller steps. So, there may be a place where free weights are a good first step. I could still argue that it would be better to do modified versions (if you know what they are) and then build up to full pushups that way.
I definitely do think that quick results are achievable with this method. In fact I know it. I’ve seen people in awe of muscles popping out (not in a gross- “I use steroids”- way!) after a brief time on my program. And you can get an amazing workout in a very short time using this style. I’ve mentioned many times that pushups and squats are some of the best exercises you can do. They are not only engaging a lot of muscles but working large muscle groups. Doubly good. For some more in-depth information on squats and push-ups, I found
