Why Keeping an Exercise Log Sheet Works
I’d like to make “exercise log sheet” a stimulating or sexy article topic, but I’m stumped. Using an exercise log sheet (as well as a diet log, for that matter) is just flippin’ common sense. “Why?” you may ask. Well, as many of my brief, yet poignant articles articulate, most of weight loss success is linked to consistency, progression, and most of all, accountability. Wouldn’t it be encouraging to see that you’ve consistently exercised for three months? Even more so, wouldn’t it be wonderful to see that when you started out you could do ZERO pushups and now you can do ten? What fun! It’s like I say about yoga…average, every day people look at a picture in Yoga Journal or something and go “Yeah right! Not in this lifetime.” But then a few months down the road, and they are actually doing it. That’s what you get when you keep at it. Progress. And results. But being the insanely tortured souls that we are, often times, we don’t give ourselves the accolades we deserve. Instead of recognizing that you exercised one day, you’ll focus on the day that you didn’t. That’s just no way to accomplish your goals. In fact, that is precisely how people get discouraged and one day turns into doing no exercise at all. Again. Not only that, but being a trainer, I am easily able to identify progress that the trainee does not. Using an exercise log sheet will aid in this, sortof like glasses for exercise. You can see where you were, where you’ve progressed, and then, where you are headed, if you just keep working. I swear to you, weight loss success is just like any other success in life. Don’t make it any more complicated. Life is plenty complicated enough. What it boils down to is consistent persistence. My husband is a huge soccer fanatic. And I will draw an analogy from that…Mind you, I love watching certain scrumptious and talented soccer players, but I only really know the essence of the game. Score a goal. That being said, I noticed in the stats of the game they report “shots on goal”, or how many times a goal was attempted. And this number seems, in a surprising number of cases, to relate to the amount of goals scored. Message: If you try enough times, you will succeed. My hubby is also in sales. Guess what? Same Thing! You know, “It’s a numbers game”, they always say. I believe the same is true of your weight loss journey. You will find what works for you, if you keep at it. Or maybe a time in your life will come where it will all click, You’ll be ready for change. If you feel like you might be there right now, check out my
readiness assessment.
I realize I’ve once again meandered off topic slightly. I guess I was thinking maybe you were feeling skeptical about an exercise log sheet. So, if you were, this little pep talk was for you. (: If you'd like to return to the home page,
